DC DBG fans,

By popular demand, we have one more stretch goal reveal before the weekend! Many of you have asked for this one, so we’re glad to share at last: the Super Heroes Components Box for the Multiverse Box!

Showcasing art of DC’s Trinity by the amazing Omar Francia, this box is designed to hold tokens and other miscellaneous items in your DC Deck-Building Game collection! And it fits right inside the oversized fourth row in the Multiverse Box (measuring approximately 3.93” x 3.14" x 2.36").

Don’t worry: You will still get the Super-Villains Component Box as well. This stretch goal is added to all Multiverse Boxes at $700k. Once it’s unlocked, we’ll show you what the Components Boxes look like inside the fourth row.

Have a great weekend everyone. We’re working on some fun stuff for next week based on fan feedback... you're the best!

Updated Injustice Playmat! Plus… To Rebirth or Not to Rebirth?
about 2 years ago – Fri, Apr 29, 2022 at 07:04:15 AM

DC DBG fans,

We’ve gotten a good number of new backers joining the campaign over the past day… welcome to the greatest community of fans in the world!

In other news: You’ve unlocked the first 5 Arena cards! With the addition of this gameplay variant (that we’re all pretty excited about), we’ve updated the Injustice playmat. Check it out!

Given all the discussion about Rebirth over the last few days, we thought this might be a good time to put some extra focus on the game. The title choice was quite purposeful (besides obviously being based on DC's comics), since in 2019 we saw it as a new incarnation of the DC DBG that we could continue to build on in the years to come.

It adds complexity to the setup and gameplay, since there is movement and scenarios with unique cards. It also offers different play modes (competitive, cooperative, solo). We initially planned to include miniatures (and even did some sculpting), but it made the product too expensive for the initial Rebirth base set.

Fan reaction to Rebirth was mixed (as can be seen on this Kickstarter in the various polls). Fans who love it really love it. Those who don’t like Rebirth have equally strong feelings. The board game elements and added elements have been cited as reasons by both groups. In addition, lots of fans just didn't bother to get it for whatever reason. We had started preliminary work on an expansion that we abandoned due to several factors, including fan feedback and sales that indicated less interest in Rebirth.

So, this Kickstarter is a pretty great place to hear what you want in the future for Rebirth. Do you want us only to reprint the game and call it a day? Do you want us to do a full expansion, INSTEAD OF expansions for the core way of playing? We’re a small team and art assets can take some time to get, so just doing MORE products isn’t always possible. Should we do something on a smaller scale?

Please take this POLL and share your thoughts in the comments!

Behind the Scenes: Multiverse Box Super Heroes Cover
about 2 years ago – Fri, Apr 29, 2022 at 02:02:25 AM

DC DBG fans,

Thanks for all your responses to our latest poll about favorite play modes. Over 800 of you have responded. Here are the top two responses for each play mode:

  •  Standard competitive: 60% the main way I play, 28% a mode I play now and then

  •  Impossible Mode competitive: 50% a mode I play now and then, 37% a mode I have never played

  •  Crisis cooperative: 50% a mode I play now and then, 23% the main way I play

  •  Rivals/Confrontations: 57% a mode I play now and then, 28% a mode I have never played

  •  Rebirth: 48% a mode I have never played, 31% a mode I play now and then

It looks like we should do more Crisis! Any surprises? It looks like many of you have never played Rebirth. Rebirth fans: Can you sell your fellow backers on why they should try it out?

As we close in on $600k and unlocking 5 Arena cards, here’s what's next at $625k: 5 more Arena cards for Injustice!

Multiverse Box – Super Heroes Edition Art

After taking you behind the scenes of the Super-Villains version of the Multiverse Box, we wanted to do the same for the Super Heroes version. Artist Omar Francia put together the sketches for both covers at the same time to make sure they lined up. He then completed the Super-Villains cover, before starting work on this one.

Once again, it was a big undertaking with over 30 characters depicted in their classic form (with approval by DC each step of the way).

Check out the initial sketch, then some pencils, inks, and colors!

How Do You Like to Play?
about 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 26, 2022 at 11:40:06 PM

DC DBG fans,

As always, we’re trying our best to listen to the fans: Per your comments, we are adjusting the size of the Arena cards a bit. Instead of making them 6” x 4.25” (and including individual baggies), they will be 6” x 4” so that you have easier sleeving options.

In the further interest of knowing what you want, we thought we’d ask you how you like to play DC Deck-Building Game. Is it standard competitive, Impossible Mode, Crisis cooperative, Rivals/Confrontations, or Rebirth? This will help us figure out more of what the fans like and don’t like so much, as we plan future releases. Plus, we’re just super curious!

Take THIS SURVEY to tell us about your favorite way to play and then sound off in the comments!

Welcome to the Arena… New Game Component!
about 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 26, 2022 at 02:28:20 PM

DC DBG fans,

Thank you to everyone for sharing their stories about how they discovered the DC Deck-Building Game series! It was incredible for our team to hear how much the game means to so many of you and how long you've been playing. It really made us want to work even harder to make these latest games special and honestly, it just made our team feel really good.

Over 500 of you responded to our poll about your favorite DC Deck-Building Game base set. We have some clear winners for favorites: Original Set (27%) and Heroes Unite (22%) at the top, followed by Forever Evil, Teen Titans, Dark Nights: Metal, Rebirth, and Confrontations. Except for the last two in the rankings, the general rule seems to be the older the set, the more votes it got. Among other things, this tells us there may be more people who have played these older games (since they’ve been around longer) and there may be a touch of nostalgia.

In terms of least favorite, Rebirth was the pick by a long way, followed by Confrontations. Nothing else really came close. Though we will discuss Rebirth more in a future update, this is pretty telling.

Many of you asked about adding set labels for the Kickstarter cards, since these cards are generally fairly specific to the sets in this campaign (as opposed to more general Promo cards). We agree it might be confusing to figure out which set these cards belong to, so we’re adding the set label to all Kickstarter cards before we go to print. Thanks for the suggestion! Here's an example:

Soooo sloooooow

Enter the Arena!

This stretch goal is a big one, as it introduces a totally new component to the DC Deck-Building Game series. At $600k, you get 5 Arena cards (each measuring 6” x 4.25”) for Injustice.

So, what are these cards?!

The arena environments of Injustice: Gods Among Us are an integral part of the video game. All previous DC Deck-Building Game base sets contained Location cards in their main decks, which gave players the option to buy Ongoing abilities to use every turn. We wanted Injustice players to interact with Arenas more than they would be able to if Arenas were just cards shuffled into the main deck.

After several different iterations, we arrived at the conclusion of "Advanced Mode" for Injustice. At the beginning of an Advanced Mode Injustice game, you will make a stack of the Arena cards equal to the number of Nemesis cards in the game and place this stack above the Line-Up.

At the bottom of every Arena card are five boxes that correspond to the different cards in the Line-Up. Two or three of these boxes have text representing an Arena feature that you can interact with. After you gain a card from the Line-Up, if its slot has something you can interact with, you may resolve the Arena card's ability. Looking at the example above, if you buy Injustice Raven, you have the option to spend 1 of your Meter charges to put that card on top of your deck instead of into your discard pile. Buying the Sword and Shield card would Charge your Meter. This provides players additional decision-making points on which card to buy in order to trigger the desired bonus effects.

Arena cards also act as a seat for the current Nemesis card. This will be a friendly reminder to players that before revealing a new Nemesis card, they will reveal a new Arena card.

Tell us what you think!
