about 2 years ago – Sun, Apr 24, 2022 at 02:00:33 AM

DC DBG fans,

Thank you for an amazing second week. We have been blown away by the support and love for DC Deck-Building Game. It’s been especially great hearing from some of you in the comments about how you discovered the series and which games are your favorites. We’d love to hear from more of you, so:

  1. Take this easy POLL to rank your favorite DC DBG base sets. (If you haven't played a set, you can skip it in your rankings). We'll reveal the results next week!

  2. Sound off in the comments about how you were introduced to DC Deck-Building Game. Did you randomly see it in a store and couldn’t resist the amazing art and DC characters? Did your friend bring it over on a game night? Is this Kickstarter your first DC DBG experience? Tell us!

Heading into the weekend, we’d like to reveal two more stretch goals. When we reach $560k, we’ll add 2 Kickstarter cards to the DC Bombshells Crossover Pack: Ravager and Magic Bracers.

After that, two iconic rivals feel the need for speed… and FOIL! At $580k, we’ll aid foil to all 6 oversized cards in Rivals – The Flash vs. Reverse-Flash.

Thank you for your support,

Anniversary Promo Pack: Add-on and New Tier!
about 2 years ago – Sat, Apr 23, 2022 at 01:17:10 PM

DC DBG fans,

You have spoken! More than 1200 of you responded to our Promo Cards survey and over 75% of you voted to have us reprint the 15 Promo Cards from the past 10 years. Thank you for letting us know what you want!

Those of you who objected definitely felt strongly about us not reprinting, but we ultimately want hardcore fans to have access to gameplay content they may have missed out on. (Interestingly, the most demanded reprint card was Clayface and the least requested was Felix Faust.)

So, starting today we are adding the Anniversary Promo Pack (including all 15 cards that came before 2022) to the campaign for $20. This is a special Kickstarter price to show appreciation for the fans; we do not currently plan on selling the full pack again, though we will continue to offer individual Promo Cards on the Cryptozoic Shop.

You can get this pack in one of two ways:

  1.  New DC DBG Infinite + Promo Pack Tier: This new tier includes everything in the existing DC DBG Infinite Tier, plus the Anniversary Promo Pack.

  2.  Anniversary Promo Pack Add-on: You can add $20 to your pledge now to cover the add-on (which you’ll select via BackerKit after the campaign) OR you can pay and select this add-on via BackerKit later.

Following the suggestion of MANY fans (those who voted for and against reprinting), we are updating the cards in two ways: updated year in the legal and the words “Reprint” next to the set label. This way, fans who won tournaments, stood in line at conventions, or bought the first printing of a game to get the original Promo Cards will still feel like they have something unique for their efforts. At the same time, anyone who wants to complete their collection will be able to do so.

Here are the 15 Promo Cards: 10 oversized and 5 standard!

Next Stretch Goals

As we close in on $500k, we’re excited to reveal the next three stretch goals!

At $515k, you’ll unlock 2 Kickstarter cards for the Multiverse Box: Count Vertigo and Bombshells!

Following that, we have two stretch goals for Injustice. When we get to $530k, you'll get 1 Kickstarter oversized card and 1 Kickstarter Super Move card: Injustice Lex Luthor and Coordinates Received.

Last but not least (for this update), you’ll unlock 4 Kickstarter cards at $545k!

Behind the Scenes: Multiverse Box Super-Villains cover
about 2 years ago – Fri, Apr 22, 2022 at 02:04:23 PM

DC DBG fans,

We will have the plan for reprinting Promo Cards tomorrow. In the meantime, as we approach the next stretch goal, we wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at how the Multiverse Box – Super-Villains Edition came together.

When we decided to do the new editions of the Multiverse Box in response to fan surveys last year, we looked for ways to make them extra special beyond the improvements fans asked for (bigger overall size, wider row for oversized cards, components box, more vertical space for rulebooks). We wanted to create a cover image that was special and encapsulated the “Multiverse.” The concept we landed on was two covers: one with Super Heroes and the other with Super-Villains. The covers would parallel each other, with Super Heroes occupying positions that (as much as possible) match the locations of corresponding Super-Villains. Each cover was going to have over 30 iconic DC characters, so it was a big undertaking.

We spoke to the uber-talented artist Omar Francia (Legends of the Dark Knight, Doom Patrol) about working with us and he was up to the challenge! It was painstaking work for him creating images for each of these characters and then putting them together in a single composition. We worked with the DC team each step of the way from early concept drawings to the final colors.

In this update, we thought we’d share some of the sketches, pencils, inks, and colors, as well as the final image that is used on the Super-Villains cover. If everyone likes what they see, maybe we’ll do the same for the Super Heroes cover. Check out these images and let us know what you think!

Run, Barry Run… to Foil Speedster Cards!
about 2 years ago – Wed, Apr 20, 2022 at 01:35:29 AM

DC DBG fans,

A big thank you to everyone who completed the survey about reprinting Promo Cards and voiced their opinions in the comments. We LOVE the engagement and passion… it’s one of the reasons we were looking forward to this campaign so much. There were some strong objections to reprinting from some fans in the surveys, but the overwhelming vote is to reprint them. We’re working out the final plan and should have an announcement later in the week.

Next up are three new stretch goals for three different rewards. The first one is for Rivals – The Flash vs. Reverse-Flash. Once we speed to $470k, all 12 cards with the new keyword “Speedster” will be upgraded to foil for backers! The foil will be added both to the art and the Speedster symbol watermark behind the text.

When we get to $485k, you’ll unlock 3 Kickstarter Hero cards for Crossover Pack 9: DC Bombshells: Black Canary, Batgirl, and Katana.

And at $500k, the Multiverse Box gets 2 Kickstarter cards: Brightest Day and The Question!

Reprinting Old Promo Cards Survey
about 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 19, 2022 at 04:41:26 AM

DC DBG fans,

Many of you have been asking us to reprint all the old DC Deck-Building Game Promo Cards in the comments this past week. So we wanted to address the Pros and Cons of reprinting… and then let you take a survey!

Promo Cards for DC Deck-Building Game products are created for many reasons:

1) Encourage fans to attend Cryptozoic’s booths at events.

2) Support retailers with first printing Promos and Promos as prizes.

3) Create excitement and reward hardcore fans with something casual players don't have.

So, reprinting them is a big question mark. Let’s breakdown the reasons for and against reprinting:

  •  Pros: more fans get to play with the cards, more fans can complete their collections, fans don’t have to pay high prices on the secondary market

  •  Cons: fans who have these cards feel less special, fans who purchased these cards from us or on secondary market are upset (especially if they paid extra), fans lose the excitement of chasing down hard-to-find cards

Please note that if we reprint any of these old Promo Cards, they will have an updated year written in the legal section, so they can be differentiated from the original printing.

Without further ado, check out the SURVEY and let us know what you think. Feel free to add comments below too.

We’ll follow up with the results later this week. If the support is overwhelmingly for reprinting, we’ll see what we can do!

Thanks for sharing your opinions,

The Cryptozoic Team
